What's Involved in an Aviation Medical?

An aviation medical examination ensures pilots and aircrew are physically and mentally fit to operate aircraft safely. The process involves a detailed medical history review, physical examination, vision and hearing tests and cardiovascular assessments, including ECG and urinalysis.

Additional tests may include blood tests, lung function tests and psychological evaluations. The results determine the issuance or renewal of medical certificates based on the type of aviation activities the individual intends to undertake.
